“On the one-year anniversary of the Metro-North train crash in Valhalla, we especially remember the six lives that were lost on that fateful evening commute. We continue, as one community, to keep in our hearts the families of the victims of this horrific tragedy,'' Buchwald said in a statement.
“It is important for all motorists to heed caution when approaching any railroad crossing. Remember that it is not worth risking your life and the lives of others when passing over a grade crossing," said the Democratic Assemblyman from White Plains.
Ellen Brody of Edgemont was killed when her Mercedes SUV collided with a northbound commuter train at 6:26 p.m. on Feb. 3, 2015. Five commuters from Westchester and Danbury, Conn., also died.
A public candlelight vigil is planned Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Town Hall.
