Bernstein, who was the choice of the Democratic Party nominating committee, is trying to unseat Feiner, who is seeking his 12th two-year term. The Democratic Party primary is set for Sept. 10. Bernstein offered his Top Tree issues in this year's campaign.
- Mismanagement: The town has been mismanaged at a severe cost to taxpayers. The WestHELP lease could have been renewed for a total of $12 million; Frank’s Nursery could have been sold to the highest bidder for $3.5 million; and the Fortress Bible lawsuit will cost taxpayers at least $5 million, with none of it covered by insurance. WestHELP, Frank's and Fortress Bible are all Mr. Feiner's responsibility. In the case of Fortress Bible, not only did a federal judge find that Mr. Feiner himself violated the constitutional rights of a church, but the same federal judge found he also destroyed evidence and declared his testimony to be "not credible," and these findings were all unanimously affirmed on appeal.
- Taxes: Since 2007, the last time there was a contested election for town supervisor, property taxes for municipal services in unincorporated Greenburgh increased by 54 percent and in the six villages the town rate went up a whopping 145 percent. Greenburgh needs a short and long-term plan to continue to provide quality services and renovate a rapidly deteriorating infrastructure that has not been maintained.
- Professionalism and respect: Town board meetings are not handled in a professional businesslike manner. Residents with questions or concerns must at all times be treated with respect and their questions answered promptly. Public comment must be the first order of business at town board meetings – not an afterthought requiring residents to wait several hours just to speak for three minutes and be ignored.
