State Supreme Court Justice Lawrence Ecker ruled Wednesday signatures of voters who used the abbreviation "WP" instead of writing out White Plains should not have been removed by the Westchester County Board of Elections.
The judge's ruling means Councilwoman Milagros Lecuona, who is challenging Tom Roach for mayor, Alan Goldman, Michael Kraver and Saad Siddiqui, who are running for Common Council, will be on the Democratic primary ballot on Sept. 12.
The suit was brought by White Plains residents Alexis Greer Heidenberg and Mark Elliot, chairman of the White Plains Board of Ethics, who were representing "all of the impacted voters."
"We are gratified by this decision," Greer Heidenberg said. "Now voters will have a choice on Primary Day."
The White Plains Democratic City Committee endorsed Roach, Councilmen John Kirkpatrick and John Martin and Justin Brasch, who is running for Common Council.
Tim James, chair of the White Plains Democratic City Committee, said he was disappointed by the judge's ruling.
"I am disappointed he didn't recognize the deliberate submission of hundreds of invalid signatures," James said.
