Lowey Says Failure To Reauthorize Funds Could Hurt Dobbs Ferry Bridge Work

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey believes the potential failure of congress to reauthorize the Highway Trust Fund could have an adverse impact on the Ashford Avenue Bridge project in Dobbs Ferry.

Failure to reauthorize the Highway Trust Fund by May 31 could have a negative impact on the Ashford Avenue Bridge project.

“Making improvements to the transportation networks families and local businesses depend on every day should be common sense,” Lowey said in a statement. “Jobs, economic growth, and public safety are at stake, but, unfortunately, there’s no plan to permanently reauthorize the Highway Trust Fund, which set to expire at the end of the month. I’m urging Congress to immediately pass a long-term Highway Trust Fund re-authorization, so that federal funding for local construction projects like the Ashford Avenue Bridge is not jeopardized."

The Highway Trust Fund is set to expire on May 31. To date, the fund has provided approximately $5 million for the Ashford Avenue Bridge, which is in the final stages of contracting approval.

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials said failure to reauthorize the trust fund could put as many as 660,000 jobs at risk and cast doubt on the status of as many as 6,000 construction projects nationwide.
