GREENBURGH, N.Y. — While three Greenburgh fire districts are having Board of Commissioners elections Tuesday night, only the Fairview District has a contested race.
Fairview Board Chair Vikki Simmons is running against Greenburgh resident Brian Montgomery for a spot on the five-commissioner board, which directly affects district residents in its role of implementing the yearly budget. Vote between 5 and 9 p.m. at one of two places: Fairview Fire Headquarters, 19 Rosemont Blvd., or Fairview Fire Station No. 2, 290 Worthington Road.
Less than 5 percent of eligible voters show up for the elections, in which one seat on the five-member commissioner in each district is up for grabs every year.
In October, Fairview commissioners approved an $11.7 million budget that will increase the tax rate by 6 percent next year. It is Greenburgh's largest fire district and receives its income solely from taxable properties.
