Of the many Westchester political hopefuls who have thrown their hats into the ring, only incumbent Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer (D-Yonkers) is facing a primary challenge, from newcomer Michael J. Sweeney, an attorney and former journalist.
With nominations from the Working Families and Independence parties, Mayer will be on the November ballot no matter what, while Sweeney is hopeful of crashing the party for the first time. No Republicans are on the general election ballot in that race.
In the 94th District, Democrat Andrew Falk of Patterson – who has earned support from the Laborers International Union of North America Local 60 – is set for a November challenge of incumbent Republican Steven Katz. The winner of the general election will represent the towns of Carmel, Patterson, Putnam Valley and Southeast in Putnam County as well as Somers and Yorktown in Westchester County.
Amy Paulin (D-Rye), Gary Pretlow (D-Mount Vernon), Steven Otis (D-Rye) and David Buchwald (D-Westchester) are all set to retain their seats in unopposed November races.
