The home, called Nuits and also known as the Cottenet-Brown House, was once the home of John Jacob Astor III, an American financier and philanthropist. The Italian villa-style house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The home is currently owned by Martin W. Dolan, an investment banker, according to The Times. He purchased the home in 2000.

Nuits has 20 rooms and was designed by architect Detlef Lienau. Francis Cottenet, who owned an import and export business in New York, was the first resident and owner of the property.

According to Wikipedia, after Cottenet's death in 1884, the home was purchased by Cyrus West Field, who had to sell a year later due to financial hardship. West placed in the deed restrictions on the property's future use, banning it from being used for certain purposes, such as industry, education, or sale to "disreputable" individuals. Those restrictions remain in place, according to Wikipedia.

The home originally included 65 acres, most of which have been parceled off for the development of nearby Ardsley Park. The mansion now includes five acres and has 16,000 square feet.

Dolan, who purchased the home for $4.3 million, told The Times he has extensively renovated the home and work is still being done. Some of the features it will include are a pool house, two saunas, a game room, wine cellar, catering facility and media room.
