FAIRFIELD, Conn. Arkell Miles scored 17 points on his way to most valuable player honors as Notre Dame of Fairfield ripped Newtown High, 72-47, in the championship game of the Newtown Tipoff Tournament on Friday night.
The Lancers (2-0) led 48-16 at halftime with improved playing after a lackluster win over Bunnell High the previous night. Dan Upchurch scored 21 points for the Lancers, while Earl Coleman added eight. Coleman joined Miles on the all-tournament team. Norwalks Tre McPherson added five points.
Notre Dame meets Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport on Monday at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart University.
