Authorities will look to trace the journey of the gun, which police said was found just after midnight Sunday following a stop at Main and Anderson streets.

Officer Kley Peralta pulled the car over for failing to maintain a lane and suspected the pair was carrying drugs, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

A search turned up a small amount of smack and the handgun, which was tucked behind the front seat, Salcedo said.

Daniel P. Verrecchia, 27, of West Vernon, and 22-year-old Sharod T. Purkett of Newark were charged with being felons in possession of a firearm, weapons possession, drug possession and receiving stolen property, the captain said.

Both were being held on $50,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail.
