ARDSLEY, N.Y. – Joe Zoella stood behind the counter of his unlit Ardsley Hardware store in downtown Ardsley on Wednesday morning as the lone open business in the village, which normally is snarled with traffic and bustling with activity.

"I'm here to serve the customers who need batteries and other items," said Zoella, who has owned and operated the store for 32 years. "I'm expecting a delivery of D, AA, AAA and C batteries in a little while. I think it's important to stay open and be here for people."

All of the downtown Ardsley business district, including the CVS drugstore, Starbucks and the Mobile gas station on Saw Mill River Road, was still without power Wednesday.

The traffic light was out at the main intersection of Ashford Avenue and Saw Mill River Road at the foot of the Ashford Avenue overpass. Drivers cautiously took turns moving through the busy intersection.

The Ardsley public schools were closed for a third straight day. The school district said its website would notify residents about Thursday's possible reopening by 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The Bee-Line bus system was running its No. 6, 5 and 1 buses through the Ardsley Square on time beginning at 7 a.m.

"I had to go to work in Yonkers, and when I got here to transfer to the No. 6, it was right on time," commuter Sylvia Sanchez said. "I thought they might be late or not running, but it was here. We have lights in my house in Elmsford, but I saw lots of trees down."
