Edgemont Schools to Relay New Budget Information

EDGEMONT, N.Y. – New information about the computation of the state's new property 2 percent tax levy cap and how it affects the school budget will be shared with Edgemont residents at Tuesday night's Edgemont Board of Education meeting at Edgemont Junior-Senior High School at 300 White Oak Lane. The meeting starts at 8:15 p.m. in the large group instruction room.

According to Edgemont Schools Superintendent Nancy Taddiken, the state recently clarified information about how the cap will be determined. A post on the Edgemont School District website said, "New information received from the state last week indicated that the district is not required to turn in its maximum allowable levy figure by March 1, as we had previously been instructed.  That new information may also change the calculation of the maximum allowable levy.”

The district’s message continued, “It is still the intention of the board and administration to remain within the maximum allowable levy (in other words, not to seek to override the new tax cap), and to continue to provide Edgemont students with the best possible education while remaining sensitive to the very difficult economic climate faced by Edgemont taxpayers.”

The new information is one of three items on the meeting agenda dealing with the 2012-2013 school budget . Also planned is a question-and-answer session "to correct inaccurate and incomplete information," according to the agenda and a discussion about mandate relief.
