Dixson/Grady school librarian Kim Sparber, who praised Paneto-Gonzalez for recognizing the importance of a well-stocked and accessible 21st-century library, nominated her for the award, which was handed out Friday, March 6, at the BOCES facility in Harrison.

Sparber said Paneto-Gonzalez actively supports various library programs at the school, including Author of the Day, Read to Succeed, Hour of Code and Maker Day activities.

Sparber added that even in the present economic times, Paneto-Gonzalez “makes sure the library has a generous and flexible budget in order to maintain a quality, up-to-date, fresh collection and a facility that is equipped with the latest technology for integration into the information literacy skills curriculum.”

Paneto-Gonzalez spent the first 13 years of her career in the New York City Schools, where she served as a classroom teacher, special area teacher, Reading Recovery teacher and a staff developer.

Before moving to the Elmsford schools, she spent two years as an instructional facilitator and 10 years as an assistant principal of both a primary and intermediate school in the East Ramapo School District.

“My greatest joy is being able to come to work and spend my day making a difference in the life of a child,” said Ms. Paneto-Gonzalez.

Superintendent Joseph Ricca also commented on the Paneto-Gonzalez's work ethic.

“Ms. Paneto-Gonzalez works tirelessly to support her students, and this is a wonderful affirmation of that hard work and dedication,” he said.
