ELMSFORD, N.Y. - Sixth-grader Lauren Williams, a student at Alice E. Grady Elementary School, represented Elmsford on baritone saxophone at the 56th Annual All-County Band Music Festival on Friday.

Williams, who tried out for the All County Band several months ago, rehearsed with the other elementary and middle school members in two, three-hour practices to prepare for the concert at the Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase College.

"The band conductor Mr. Pease and staff were great," Williams said. "We worked hard but had fun, too. The musical selections were fun and exciting to play. Everyone there had a love for music and really enjoyed it."

Williams began playing the sax in the fourth grade in beginner band at Grady and practices with the school band before school three days a week. She plays alto and tenor saxophone.

The young musician has also attended Westchester County Summer Music Camp at the County Center, where she has learned to play the trumpet, flute, clarinet and the keyboard.

Williams also took several private lessons with Paul Scatt of the Muzic Store in Dobbs Ferry to prepare for the festival.

"I had a wonderful time," Williams said. "I met new friends from around the County and saw old friends I had met in the Westchester Summer Music Camp."
