The meeting in the Alexander Hamilton High School library covered an array of items, including the importance of using the district website to access crucial information, new high school academic offerings being developed for the 2015-16 school year and an update on the new capital improvement planning committee.
Ricca urged the group to access the district website for important updates related to weather alerts, district events, curriculum matters and other information, including PTA and SEPTA initiatives and events. The website was reinvented last year and is available in an array of languages.
Ricca said district administrators are working "really, really hard" to maintain small, student-centered classes. The importance of students being able to speak one-on-one with their teachers and the valuable relationships that are formed as a result are important to this effort, he said.
High school course offerings also were on the evening's agenda. AHHS Principal Marc Baiocco spoke about increased STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) at the high school level, including a Robotics 1 class, which is being offered to students in grades 9 through 12.
