"Fitness Friday" welcomed a special guest Friday, Sept. 19, when Kiki Campbell, a representative for the newly-formed Westchester Knicks Developmental League, an affiliate of the New York Knicks, encouraged the children to stay fit and gave out Knicks sunglasses as prizes for those who participated in the physical tests. According to "Fitness Friday" maestro and school physical fitness teacher Drew Watson, who leads the dynamic exercise session with dance moves, relay races and the passion of a fitness trainer, the Friday event offers kids a chance to use some energy and learn that staying fit can be fun. "We've been doing this for 11 years and it's really become popular the last couple," Watson said. "I get a kick out of it and i know the teachers and administrators enjoy seeing the kids out there on the floor. We want kids to be conscious of good healthy habits. This makes it fun." The students, teachers and administrators, including Principal Madeline Paneto Gonzalez, filled the gymnasium floor with rhythmic exercises and dance moves led by Watson. Elmsford Schools Superintendent Joseph Ricca dropped by and watched the hour-long event. "Fitness Friday" embraces Stephen Covey’s book “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.".Staff and students in the Elmsford Schools have been studying the lessons that Covey espouses in his highly popular book.

"The kids were really working out and having such a great time," Campbell said. "I couldn't believe how focused they were and, wow, the volume and excitement was amazing. I hope they all come and cheer on the Westchester Knicks.
