IRVINGTON, N.Y. Five candidates are competing for two open seats on the Irvington Board of Education in this year's school board election.
Incumbents John Dawson and Robyne Camp will seek re-election and face challenges by Robyn Kerner, Maria Kashkin and Della Lenz.
Dawson is the current school board president. He has lived in Irvington for several decades and teaches in Yonkers.
Camp is a current school board member and Irvington resident.
Kerner is an Irvington resident. She previously served on the Irvington Board of Education as a member, president and vice president from July 2005 to June 2011. Kerner is a member of the PTSA, Dows Lane Parent Action Committee, Irvington Middle School Site Committee and Budget Task Force. She has also served with the Irvington Education Foundation.
Lenz is an Irvington resident and has chaired school functions such as the PTSA Winter Festival and Pizza Friday. She has also volunteered with the Irvington Education Foundation, Abbott House and Andrus Children's Center.
Kashkin is an Irvington PTSA executive board member and former Dows Lane Elementary School president. The Irvington resident is also a member of the Irvington Fundraising and Community Events Committee and chair of the Fieldpoint Architectural Review Board.
The Irvington school district includes the village of Irvington, a portion of southern Tarrytown and part of the unincorporated areas of Greenburgh. The district is bordered on the north by Route 119, on the south by the village of Dobbs Ferry, on the west by the Hudson River and on the east by the Saw Mill River Parkway. The district encompasses 4.5 square miles and has a population of about 7,000.
