Food, games, music, an array of vendors and a few dance workshops were among the many fun activities that kept children and adults entertained during the carnival. The fund-raiser was organized by the Carl L. Dixson/Alice E. Grady Parent Leadership Team.
Many of the younger children engaged in face painting and sand art activities while others tried their hand at the beanbag toss and crazy golf, among other fun games. Vendors also were involved, including representatives of Pampered Chef, Learning Buddies, Sweet Treats and Make Up Fame.
Community members created a variety of baskets that were raffled off toward the end of the three-hour event. A silent auction, including a signed Eli Manning jersey and a signed Mariano River baseball, were among the night’s special items.
“I cannot find the words to thank you for all that you did to make last night such a great success,” said Grady/Dixson Principal Madeline Paneto-Gonzalez in an email to the Elmsford community, referring to the more than $4,000 raised by the district. “The event exceeded my wildest dreams; I am truly honored to be part of such an amazing community.”
Paneto-Gonzalez said more than 500 people volunteered for and/or attended the event. Whether it was wrapping baskets, making monetary donations, spreading the word or just sending a word of encouragement to the family, there were so any meaningful contributions made, she said.
Superintendent Joseph Ricca said from the outset this was a community-wide undertaking, with the residents of Elmsford, students, teachers, administrators, district trustees and village officials attending the event.
“The Elmsford Board of Education, Mayor Robert Williams and the village trustees were very supportive of the Winter Carnival,” Ricca added. “The evening was a testament to community connection and the positive relationships that have defined Elmsford as a close-knit, supportive and caring community.”
