Greenburgh Central students from kindergarten through eighth grade will compete for one national spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, school officials said. One student will represent the school district in the national competition from May 25 to 31 in Washington, D.C. Nearly 120 students will compete for the one spot. The Greenburgh Central spelling bee begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 18 at R.J. Bailey Elementary School at 33 Hillside Ave. in White Plains.

Local judges will include politicians, school board members and community leaders including Paul Feiner, Greenburgh Town Supervisor; Christopher McNerney, Police Chief, Town of Greenburgh; Frances Sheehan, Town Council and the Honorable Delores Braithwaite, Town of Greenburgh; Iris Pagan, Executive Director of Westchester of Youth Bureau and Commissioner Bill Carter, Theodore D. The students were amazing! Smart, talented. Highlights the quality education that students who attend the Greenburgh Central School district receive. Harshita Shet, a 4th grade student beat 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and will participate in the EW Scripps finals in Washington DC. I think she stands a great chance of winning!
