Greenburgh Students Earn Medals In Academic/Cultural Competition

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Two Woodlands High School students won silver medals in the Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics regional competition.

Four Woodlands students competed at Westchester Community College on Sunday, April 26. ACT-SO, which promotes today's students as tomorrow's leaders, is a year-long achievement program designed to recruit, stimulate and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students. The four high school students competing were freshman Cyen Peterkin, junior Samantha Simpson, and seniors Akibo Watson and Awa Nyambi.

Akibo and Awa were both awarded silver medals in their respective categories. Akibo competed in chemistry for the sciences category, and Awa competed in music (instrumental/classical) for the performing arts category. Samantha also competed in music (vocal/contemporary) for the performing arts category while Cyen competed in poetry for the humanities category.
