Greenburgh's Chanya Holness Heads To National Spelling Bee

HARTSDALE, N.Y. - Woodlands Middle School students and faculty will host a Sendoff Rally for eight grader Chanya Holness as she prepares to compete in the Scripps National Bee in Washington, D.C May 28-30.

Holness earned the Grand Prize after spelling the winning word "Megolopolis" to to place first among 80 students in Greenburgh Central 7’s local Spelling Bee competition held on March 13.  The Scripps Spelling Bee is the nation's largest and longest running educational promotion, administered on a not-for-profit basis by The E.W. Scripps Company and local spelling bee sponsors in the United States, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Department of Defense Schools in Europe.
