GRENBURGH, N.Y. -- Hartsdale native Bruno Schaffa recently received the Villanova University Book Award and the MAGIS Award from the Loyola School in Manhattan.
The Villanova University Book Award is presented to "a rising senior who has demonstrated academic excellence in a challenging curriculum, a commitment to serving those less fortunate in their greater community, and embodies a sense of school and community spirit as an example to others.”
The MAGIS Award is presented to those students who go above and beyond the normal efforts of their peers.
“The next recipient was nominated as an enthusiastic member of the jazz ensemble and orchestra since he started as a freshman at Loyola," said Headmaster James Lyness as part of his presentation speech to Schaffa. "His generosity and kindness toward other members of the ensemble have been exemplary, together with his openness to growth in exploring unfamiliar musical territory such as jazz improvisation. He also makes great contributions to the forensics team, made semi-finals at states last year, helps new members of the team find speeches, and organized the extemporaneous speaking team over the summer. He exhibits high standards of excellence and a great willingness to share his talents with the community."
