“There is a great deal of excitement across the district as a result of the arrival of our students,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kristopher Harrison said. “The faculty, staff and administration are motivated to share in many enriching experiences with our students and are dedicated to making this a memorable school year.”

Teachers at Dows Lane Elementary School and Main Street School greeted their students with smiles, helped them organize their school supplies and guided them through their expectations for the year.

Meanwhile, teachers at the middle and high school also warmly welcomed back students.

Irvington High School students jumped in with a regular full day of classes on the first day of school, while the halls of Irvington Middle School were buzzing with chatter as eighth-graders teamed up with sixth-graders for various first-day-of-school activities, which were designed to help the younger students make a smooth transition into their new school.

Students were treated to a barbecue in the courtyard and later participated in a scavenger hunt that sent them on an adventure around the building.
