HARTSDALE, N.Y. - The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) White Plains/Greenburgh Chapter honored Greenburgh Central 7 Schools Athletic Director Matt Smith and teacher Wilma Houston in May.

Houston was honored as Best Teacher/Counselor. Other honorees in this category included  Tenee Johnson Bowman and Gregory Thorpe. Smith won his award for Best Youth Organizational Leader. Other honorees in this category included Joslyn Perkins. R.J. Bailey and Woodlands Middle School were recognized in the Best School category. The NAACP promotes and ensures political, educational, social, and economic equality. Since 1909, the NAACP has served minorities. The White Plains Chapter has been in operation for the past 75 years.
