ELMSFORD, N.Y. - Public schools in Elmsford opened for the 2013-2014 school year Tuesday - back in session for two days before closing again for the Rosh Hashanah holidays Thursday and Friday.
The Elmsford School District's first-year Superintendent Joseph Ricca rode the school bus # 2 to Dixson Elementary School with his new students.
"I was at the Dixson School with our little guys and gals," Ricca said. "It was a wonderful opening day in the EUFSD (Elmsford schools) and we are thrilled to have the children back. (The children) told me all about their summer and how excited they are for school."
Parents walked to local schools through Elmsford neighborhoods and yellow school buses hit the local roads as early as 7 a.m. picking up children in the villages as teachers, principals and administrators waited at the schools for their charges to arrive.
