POCANTICO HILLS, N.Y. – Voters in the Pocantico Hills Central School District approved a $28.64 million budget Tuesday and re-elected David Wilens to the Board of Education.
The budget passed with 190 votes for and 103 votes against.
“It’s great for the district,” Wilens said. “It’s a great sign that residents believe in what the board was doing and what the district was doing, so I’m very happy to hear that.”
Incumbent Wilens ran unopposed for the one opening on the board. School board members serve three-year terms.
The budget will reduce the property tax rate by 1.08 percent for Mount Pleasant residents and 2.18 percent for Greenburgh residents.
Voters also approved proposals to increase the district's tax certiorari fund by $2 million to $3 million and put aside $300,000 for school building repairs.
The total budget fell above the tax levy cap, so 60 percent of voters were needed to approve it. Tuesday's 190 "yes" votes was 64.8 percent of the total cast.
According to unofficial results, 293 people voted in Tuesday's election, with Wilens receiving 171 votes.
“There’s a lot more work to do, and there’s still lots of opportunity for us to do good things for the district, so I’m glad to be a part of it,” Wilens said.
