Johnson, an outspoken advocate on matters of education policy, delivered her remarks to mark the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., holiday, which each year commemorates the civil rights leader’s birthday.

The segment was aired on Jan. 9 in the Mamaroneck Library before a gathering of the Mamaroneck Larchmont Committee on Human Rights, and was also aired on LMC-TV cable access television.

"I'm so thankful to Southern Westchester BOCES for making this available," Johnson said after the 25-minute presentation was complete.

Besides the dozen or so BOCES students who collaborated on the taping for Johnson’s remarks, and making sure that lighting, sound, video and the TV studio set were ready; a teacher and student from the campus's Cosmetology Program also handled makeup duties so that Johnson would appear her best under the glare of the studio lights.

Members of the committee, including Elizabeth Saenger, Keith Yizar and Shirlee Hilton, were also on hand for the taping. Yizar, a youth services liaison at Mamaroneck High School, said he was impressed with the students' show of respect and how they presented themselves personally as well as professionally.

Tony Ely, the program’s instructor, said: “I am pleased that we have a new state-of-the-art studio to do this kind of taping and also happy with my students’ professionalism. It was an honor to have Regent Johnson choose our studio.”
