Teacher Jeannemarie Cregran, spelling bee coordinator and member of the spelling bee committee, prepared students for the event. As the students came down the aisle for the competition, the audience went wild with cheers of encouragement for their classmates.

Teacher Melissa Iamomico, the official bee mascot, buzzed around while the students took their seats to begin the competition. Miriam Bernabei, director of performing arts and special programs, was the announcer of the spelling words.

Seventeen students were standing at the start of the competition, but at the end, only two remained, Hershita Shet and Kai Cinco. Tension was rising in the auditorium, who would be the Mock Spelling Bee Champion?

It came down to the last word, and with a standing ovation, Hershita, fifth-grader and last year's winner of the official spelling bee, became the Mock Spelling Bee Champion.
