Simon & Schuster Gives 350 Books to Jackson School

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Students at the Lee F. Jackson School received a smile-inducing educational holiday present as publishing company Simon & Schuster donated 350 books.

"We thank Simon & Schuster for their generous donation, and the PTA for its tireless efforts to help the kids," said Jackson Principal Patricia Simone. "The books enrich our reading program, which is the vital foundation for our children's education and a lifetime of success."

Throughout the semester, the school's PTA pushed to acquire more funding for reading materials. Upon speaking with Manhattan's Simon & Schuster, the publishing company agreed to donate books for the students.

"We want to come up with ways to get books into the children's homes," said Jackson's PTA President Amy Huang. "We are going to work as hard as we can to do that."

Late last week, each child was given a book of his/her choice, and the rest were donated to the library. Children smiled, holding their new book to read over the holiday break. The PTA sat with students and read books like "Little Panda," "Little Red Hen" and "Turkey Bowl." The students also received a bookmark from Simone and reading tips from the librarian and reading teacher.
