WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Whether they're walking or crawling, it's essential for children to discover their own paths. Through the Freedom of Movement Certification at Westchester Community College’s Virginia Marx Children's Center , toddlers move freely in a classroom environment, discovering the world around them.

Virginia Marx is the first children's center in Westchester County to attain the Freedom of Movement Certification, which avoids the physical restraints of traditional child development.

This freedom of movement allows infants to encounter obstacles they might not normally experience. "As opposed to putting a child in a contained area like a walker, our children have access to anything in the classroom that they can crawl to," said Susan Zucker, Director of The Virginia Marx Children's Center.

"We are really proud to be the first children's center to earn the Freedom of Movement Certification in Westchester,” said Zucker. “We think the way we go about teaching our children will have a very positive impact on them in the future." The certification was awarded by the Child Care Council of Westchester.

The Virginia Marx Children's Center is located on Westchester Community College’s Valhalla campus and offers programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers, open 5 days a week from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, click here.
