The district was the only one in Westchester County to showcase its curriculum to the group and, in particular, its use of technology.
The visit was coordinated through a special arrangement with the EF Education First International Language Center in Tarrytown.
The Vietnamese teachers, who work at the primary, secondary and high school level, had the chance to observe instructors using Smartboards and Chromebook laptops in their classrooms.
The Vietnamese teachers divided into two groups and were led on tours of Alexander Hamilton Junior/Senior High School and the Alice E. Grady Elementary School.
During the half-hour tours, they took photos and shot videos of the various lessons taking place. They were very interested in the curriculum and in the student work that is displayed in hallways and other areas of the schools.
Some in the group shared their own experiences of teaching in Vietnam and how different it is from the American education system, including the larger class sizes and the fact that students get instruction in all subjects from the same classrooms.
Superintendent of Schools Joseph Ricca stressed the importance of technology to the learning process, the cooperative learning environment that has been fostered throughout the district and the trust the administration and teachers have developed with students.
“We were very happy to welcome these educators to the EUFSD and to share some of our expertise with them,” he said.
