The students will be led by Westchester Community College student Trustee Neish Dawkins. They are using the rally, petition drives, press events and meetings with lawmakers to move the cause forward.
Town of Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner encouraged the student group and invited Greenburgh residents to stop by the rally.
"I think that this is terrific," Feiner said in a statement Tuesday. "The best way for students to learn about their government is to be a part of the process. Students at the community college are taking on an important cause, pedestrian safety, and will learn advocacy techniques."
The students will interact with lawmakers and encourage residents, elected officials and community leaders to reflect on the benefits sidewalks, including safe, healthy lifestyles, Feiner said.
Students will be meet at the Gateway front lawn of the Westchester Community College, across from parking lot 11, toward the East Grasslands Gate, at the college gate closest to BOCES. The students will be holding signs and banners for about 30 minutes from 11:20 to 11:50 a.m.
The students will then head to the Gateway Center Auditorium, where the sidewalk open forum will be held. Feiner will be among the speakers at the event.
