Woodlands High School Students Take Part In U.N. International Conference

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Students at Woodlands and Mount Vernon high school visited the United Nations to join students from Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago for an international discussion on women and slavery.

The students were escorted by The Westchester County Chapter of The Links Incorporated, one of the oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of women, committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African-Americans.

Students from each country made presentations about the causes, consequences, and lessons of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade and discussed how to raise awareness of the dangers of racism and prejudice.

The Westchester students are active participants in the Westchester Chapter of The Links Incorporated’s International Foreign Affairs and Business Empowerment Program for Youth.

Their involvement in the U.N. conference is one of a number of activities the Westchester County Chapter of The Links is sponsoring in celebration of its 65th anniversary.
