Tokarski takes the students on the trip to gain first hand experience with exploring nuclear energy through a detailed tour of the Buchanan facility led by Pat Falciano. The AP Environmental Science course covers topics related to nuclear power, and an essay question about nuclear power has appeared on the AP exam.

Tokarski began the trips to Indian Point several years ago so the students can ask their own questions and make their own decisions about nuclear power, rather than depending on pre-determined ideas from family or the media.

Correction: an earlier version of this article listed the class as AP Earth Science. Additional details from instructor Tokarski have also been included.
