ARDSLEY, N.Y. The Ardsley High School boys and girls basketball programs will honor the schools Athletic Director Hank Roth this week with a basketball tournament at the school Friday-Sunday, Dec. 8-10.
According to girls coach Michael Pollio, Roth will be presented with a plaque during the two-day tournament that will include girls and boys teams from The Ursuline Academy B team (New Rochelle), Somers, Eastchester and Pleasantville high schools.
Roth has been invloved in local high school sports for more than 50 years, the last 18 as Ardsley athletic director. During his tenure, Roth has added 18 teams to the school's athletic program.
Pleasantville will meet Somers boys at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 8 followed by a game between Ursuline B and Somers girls at 6:15 p.m.
On Dec. 9, the Ardsley boys and girls will face Eastchesters boys and girls at 4:30 and 6:15 p.m. respectively.
The winners of the four opening-round games will meet in the tournament finals, while the losers will meet in consolation games Saturday. The boys will play the consolation game at 11 a.m. and the championship game 2:30 p.m. with the girls consolation scheduled for 12:45 p.m. and the title game at 4:30 p.m.
Toni Pilla and Casey Foley helped the Panthers open the season with a win over Dobbs Ferry in last weeks Irvington High School William Warnock Tournament before a losing to the host Bulldogs girls in the final.
Coach Andrew Beames looks to captian Dan Stein, John Scrofano, Jake Liebersohn, Mark Whitley and Eric Scaperrotta in a rebuilding season.
