Edgemont finished its season with an 11-7 record and wrapped up with a strong 58-43 win against Dobbs Ferry, the No. 4 seed in the upcoming playoffs. The win secured the Panthers a share of the league title for the first time since 1999.

The Panthers have a balanced scoring attack from Ram Chadha, Paul Emdin and Jack Kenny. The key for Edgemont will be slowing down Croton’s star senior guard Ian Thom, who can put up a ton of points quickly and can dole out assists with ease.

The Tigers finished the season at 10-8 and enter the playoffs on a relatively high note. Croton earned a 67-53 win against Roosevelt and a 56-54 overtime win against Westlake before stubbed its toe against Hendrick Hudson in the final game of the regular season.

Thom, in particular, closed out the season well. He poured in a career-high 44 points against Roosevelt on 16-of-22 shooting, including seven three-pointers. He also hauled in 10 rebounds.

Thom has clearly been the best player for the Tigers all season, and he has shown the clutch gene as well, which could be the difference between an early exit and a deep run for Croton. Thom has taken over games in the fourth quarter several times, most recently against Westlake when he hit an overtime buzzer-beater to keep the Wildcats out of the playoffs.

The win against Dobbs Ferry showed that Edgemont is capable of taking down a quality opponent. The Panthers held Eric Paschall, one of the section’s best scorers, to 18 points in that game. They must have a similar level of success with Thom on Friday to advance to the quarterfinals.
