Once he did, Fiorentino worked his way into major playing time. The sophomore and Hartsdale resident raised his level of play this season and has been a major offensive force for the Rams.

“Last year, from the beginning, I gave it my best shot and I was going to see what happened,” Fiorentino said. “When I made the team, I was excited because I got to play with a great group of guys who I had known for a long time.

“This year, I came back as a veteran and I had a little more confidence on the ice.”

The 6-foot-1 Fiorentino centers the first line. He is creative with the puck and a solid finisher around the net as evidenced by his 17 goals and 15 assists so far this season. Fiorentino is adept at putting himself in position to score because of his defensive mindset.

Fiorentino plays defense for his travel hockey team – the New York Saints – so when he is playing for Fordham Prep, he always is thinking one step ahead of the defense.

“Playing defense gives me an edge when I am playing forward for Fordham Prep,” Fiorentino said. “It helps me with the breakouts from our zone, seeing the whole ice and knowing where I need to go in the offensive zone to put myself in the best scoring position.”

In two seasons, Fiorentino has 35 goals and 37 assists. The bad news for Fordham Prep opponents is these numbers will increase as Fiorentino has two more years in maroon and white.
