Greenburgh Nipped by Lake Isle in Pool

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- An exciting finish in the relay races determined the winner Thursday as the Lake Isle Swim team nipped Greenburgh at the finish by a score of 242-228. Lake Isle swimmer Nick Torres raced to victory in three events; the 10-and-under boys’ freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly. Johji Nonaka of Lake Isle won both the eight-and-under boys’ freestyle and butterfly events, and teammate Yuma Kase took first place in the 14-and-under girls’ backstroke and butterfly. Lake Isle’s 10-and-under boys freestyle relay team broke its own record (from last week) with a new time of 2:06.75. The team included Aiden Bowers, Luca Quinones, Ryan Maierle and Nick Torres. For Greenburgh, Sophia Shapovick won the eight-and-under girls’ freestyle, backstroke and butterfly, Jasmine Smith took the 10-and-under girls’ freestyle, backstroke and butterfly, Kymani Senior won the 12-and-under boys freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly events and Oliver Patrouch took the 14-and-under freestyle, backstroke and butterfly. Callie Kanim and Charles Barry each won two events for Greenburgh. Kanim won the 17-and-under girls’ freestyle and backstroke and Charles Barry was tops in the 17-and-under backstroke and butterfly.
