Greenburgh Residents Invited To Learn Platform Tennis

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Greenburgh residents mystified by the mini tennis courts are invited to a free platform tennis clinic in October.

The Town of Greenburgh is sponsoring the free clinic that will run from 2 to 5 p.m., Oct. 6, and 1 to 4 p.m., Oct. 12, at Rumbrook Park in Hartsdale, town officials said in a news release. The event is co-sponsored by Viking Athletics and Sportech.

'You’ll have a chance to experience the game first-hand and learn the ins and outs of this exciting winter racket sport," officials said in the release. "Rackets and balls will be provided – all you need are sneakers and sports attire."

Town officials also noted that the sport was invented in 1928 in Westchester County, according to the release.

"The game is similar to tennis but has some interesting twists including the ability to play balls off the screens," town officials said in the release. "So come on out and give it a try. You’ll be glad you did."
