SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Kymani Senior had a smile on his face as he discussed his two races at the conclusion of the Westchester County Swim Conference Championships 12- and 14-and-under qualifier. The Greenburgh Swim Team member had every reason to be pleased based on his top seed in the boys 12-and-under 50 breaststroke and a second seed in the 50 butterfly.
The top 16 swimmers and relay teams move into the finals Thursday, 11 a.m., at Westchester Country Club. Senior, who finished third in the breaststroke at the County Championships last week, covered the breaststroke in 33.58 and the butterfly in 28.91.
In the breaststroke, I dropped my time by three-hundreths of a second, which doesnt seem like much, but I felt I did really well and earned the top seed, said Senior, 12, and an eighth-grader-to-be at Woodlands Middle School. I felt that I had a really good start and that enabled met to have a good time.
Senior followed up his breaststroke with a solid performance in the butterfly, just half a second behind top-seeded Alex Corda of Harrison Recreation. Following the race, Senior was advised by his coaches he did very well and can shave time off of when he races Thursday.
I felt I did very well other than my turns, Senior said. My coaches told me that my turns were too long and I couldve gone faster. This gives me motivation in practice tomorrow and in the final to shorten my turn.
