VALHALLA, N.Y. -- The Alexander Hamilton track team placed second overall at the Section 1 Class C Track and Field Championships Wednesday, setting nearly 40 personal best records and five school records along the way as it prepares for next week's state qualifying meets.

"They really did a great job," Hamilton girls' track team coach Rich MacLeish said. "We planned for that meet since August and knew that if the girls stayed focused the results would be huge. A second place finish for the smallest team there is a huge accomplishment. I couldn't be prouder of our girls and their hard work. We now move onto the individual competitions at the Section 1 State Qualifier next week."

Jasmine Robinson and Janel Batiste finished 1-2 in the 100-meter dash with Robinson clocking a time of 12.5 seconds, a tenth of a second faster than Batiste and Maiya Scott raced to victory in 200-meter dash in a time of 27.1.

The Red Raiders girls continued their dominance of the sprints events with Jessica Berrara racing to a victory in the 400m in 59.6 seconds with Scott taking fourth.

Maia Hood, a star basketball player in the winter season, jumped 32-feet, 2.5-inches to win the triple jump. The girls relay teams placed second to Class C team champion Bronxville in both the 4x100m and 4x400m events. Angeline Dimano and Brendan Duran placed fourth and fifth overall in the pentathlon.
