Hamilton Girls to Play Coleman Catholic Tuesday

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Alexander Hamilton girls varsity basketball coach Benjamin Carter put together a difficult non-league in order to prepare his team for the post season. The Red Raiders opened the season with victories over Class AA and Class A schools, en route to winning the Section 1 Class C championship. Hamilton will face a major test when it plays Section 9 titlist Coleman Catholic in a New York State Class C regional semifinal Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. at the Westchester County Center. The winner advances to the regional final Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at a Section 9 site to be determined against the victor of Southold (Section 11)-Friends Academy (Section 8). Coleman Catholic, the 2011 New York State Class D champ, enters the game with a 21-0 record. The Stateswomen won the Section 9 title with a 56-28 victory over Tri-Valley. Other than a four-point over Catholic Central (Troy, N.Y.), every Coleman Catholic victory has been more than 20 points. Makenzie Burud leads Coleman Catholic in scoring, averaging 18.9 points a game, and rebounding, averaging 9.5 rebounds per game. Kate Shults averages 9.1 points per game and Nicole Curley is at 8.7 points a game.
