ELMSFORD, N.Y. -- The dynamic Alexander Hamilton girls track team is hitting its mark for Saturday's Westchester County championships and next week's Section 1 track and field meets after winning the League III-B title for the fourth time in the last five years Tuesday.
The Red Raiders ran over teams from Valhalla, Blind Brook, Rye Neck and Port Chester, winning eight of the 11 running events despite rain and chilly weather. Hamilton scored 217 points, with Valhalla in second with 173 and Port Chester with 86.
"The overall the performance was tremendous," Raiders coach Rick MacLeish said. "We lost to Valhalla by only a few points last year, and the girls were very determined to avoid a similar result this year. Even with a cold steady rain falling, there was nothing that would deter this team from victory."
Senior Jessica Barrera bettered her own school records in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles and junior Maia Hood set a new school record in the triple jump. The Raiders 4x100 and 4x400 teams are also primed for Saturday's County Championships coming off victories at the league meet.
