The senior has continued her outstanding play, raising her game to the next level. Hood is currently averaging 23 points and 13 rebounds per game for Hamilton and is The Greenburgh Daily Voice Athlete of the Month for December.

Hood, in her fifth varsity season, has the Red Raiders off to an excellent start as they look to make it consecutive sectional titles.

“Maia is doing all of the extra things needed in order to get us over the hump,” Hamilton coach Benjamin Carter said. “She is working hard in practice, working with the younger girls. Because Maia has been there before, she talks to them and lets them know what it will take for them to grow as players. Her leadership has really kicked in this year.”

Maia also demonstrates this leadership on the court through her unselfish play. Opponents are determined to limit Hood’s offensive explosions this year. As a result of teams focusing on her with double teams, Hood is racking up assist numbers by setting up her teammates.

“Maia is drawing so much attention that she is opening up the floor for her teammates,” Carter said.

Hood can still be lethal, when needed, and has the quickness to put the ball on the floor and beat the double team. Hood recently scored a career-high 42 points
