Irvington Girls Advance to State Regional Final

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The two-time defending New York State Class B champion Irvington girls basketball team continued its run at a third straight title Tuesday with an easy 79-36 victory over Highland High School in the Class B state regional semifinals at the Westchester County Center.

Alexis Martins, Brittni Lai and Marley Giddins combined for 33 points in the first half and a total of 51 in the game as the Bulldogs overwhelmed Section 9 representative Highland to advance to the state regional final.

The Bulldogs (21-1) will meet the winner of the Section 8-Section 11 regional semifinal Saturday at Farmingdale State College at 5 p.m. The regional final winner will advance to next week’s Class B Final Four in upstate Troy.

Lai scored eight of her 12 points and handed out three assists in the first quarter and Martins scored 11 points and added seven rebounds as the Bulldogs built an insurmountable 26-4 lead. Irvington led 47-12 at halftime and coasted through the second half to the win.

Martins finished with a game-high 21 points and gathered 14 rebounds and Giddins added 18 points for Irvington.

Ten of Irvington’s 14 players scored at least two points with Ryan McMahon scoring seven and Alyssa DiCampli and Laurilyn Gelardi adding four apiece.
