Albert, a freshman midfielder, also added three assists to her offensive performance.

Harvey jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first few minutes of the game and went on to take control of the first half, scoring eight goals while holding the home team Lady Rams to six.

After the sixth goal, Harvey's defense and rock solid goaltender Ariana Weaver held Watkinson scoreless for 20 minutes as the Lady Cavs increased their lead 11-6.

Later in the game, the momentum shifted to the Lady Rams who pulled themselves within one goal of tying the game. After Harvey Coach Greg Janos called a strategic timeout to settle his team down, the Lady Cavs regrouped and widened their lead when Melissa Shaw-Patino of Pound Ridge grabbed possession of the ball, sprinted down the field, beating two defenders, and scored with one second left on the clock.

Janos was happy for the win but felt emotionally drained. “I'm still recovering from such an intense game," he said. "These types of games are exciting to be a part of. It was a hard fought battle by both teams with the momentum shifting back and forth. We traveled to Watkinson with only two subs and our girls played their hearts out.”

Mallon, playing as a freshman midfielder, took great joy in going on the road to play a tough Watkinson team and coming home a winner. "I knew my first battle there wouldn't be easy, but I didn't know how great it would feel to stand there with the team wanting to scream and jump up and down after that final buzzer sounded and we were victorious," she said.

Eighth-grade midfielder Sophia Scarsella of Briarcliff Manor also had a big game on offense with three goals and two assists. Shaw-Patino finished with two goals while senior Tiaja Downer of the Bronx added one. Weaver, a senior goalkeeper from Elmsford, made 12 saves in front of the net.

Janos credits teamwork for giving Harvey the win. “Our teamwork proved to be the difference maker with six different goal scorers making it tough to defend when every Cavalier is a threat," he said.

Harvey improved its record to 3-0-0 with all games being played on the road so far. The Lady Cavs play their first home game April 25 when they host The Master's School of West Simsbury, Conn.
