Knollwood's Miller Reaches Met Amateur Semifinal

ELMSFORD, N.Y. – Knollwood Country Club's Mike Miller shot a sparkling 6-under-par 65 Friday to reach the semifinals of the 110th Met Amateur Championship played at the Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, N.J.

Miller and three other semifinalists will match up Saturday beginning at noon.

"I feel great. I’m really looking forward going into (Saturday),” Miller said. “I already played with Ryan (McCormick) in the stroke play, and he’s playing phenomenal. We both played great in the morning wave (Friday, shooting 6-under 65s) and really fed off each other. It’s really nice to get back, being the defending champ, and possibly get to the finals again.”

Miller, who is the reigning Metropolitan Golf Association Player of the Year and is currently ranked No. 52 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, defeated Doug Kleeschulte of Wiltwyck 3 and 2 (led by three strokes with two holes to play) in the Round of 16, then took out red-hot stroke-play medalist Brian Komline of Black Oak, 4 and 2, in the quarterfinals. The 20-year-old never trailed a single hole during his two match play rounds on Friday.

McCormick, who also shot a 65 in his quarterfinal match, felt he built momentum through the day.

“I played great this afternoon,” McCormick said. “I kind of got off to a slow start. You know after the fourth hole, I said to my caddie, ‘Come on, let’s go, let’s play aggressive golf.’ And I got it going after that.”

Live hole-by-hole scoring of the 110th Met Amateur will be available, as well as photos and video, through mgagolf.org .
