ELMSFORD, N.Y. – The Alexander Hamilton varsity girls’ basketball team had experience disappointment in its previous two trips to the Section 1 Class C championship game.

Hamilton, led by Maia Hood, made the third time the charm as it beat Keio to win the Section 1 Class C title in March.

Hamiton’s title was one of the top sports stories in 2012 in Greenburgh and Elmsford. Hamilton last won a girls’ sectional title in 1988.

The Woodlands varsity football team had a rebirth this fall, going undefeated during the regular season on its way to the Section 1 Class C championship. The Falcons defeated Rye Neck, 35-0 in the title game. It was Woodlands first sectional title since 1993.

The Alexander Hamilton girls’ track and field team finished second, to perennial power Bronxville, in the Section 1 spring championships.

According to coach Rick MacLeish, the team established 40 personal bests and five school records. Champions included Jasmine Robinson (100-meter dash), Maiya Scott (200), Jessica Berrara (400) and Maia Hood (triple jump).
