GREENBURGH, N.Y. — As 2012 draws to an end, The Greenburgh Daily Voice is looking back at some of the top stories of the year .
It was a heartbreaking loss for the Woodlands High School football team.
After winning a section championship and hosting their first playoff game in more than 25 years, the Falcons fell to O'Neill High without their head coach Nov. 9, who had to miss the final game to attend his son's wedding.
Even with star players D'Andre Tilford, Justin Riccio, Dylan Eddy and Tyrone Barber, named The Greenburgh Daily Voice athlete of the month for November, the Falcons struggled without head coach Mike Meade leading the team.
It was the first loss the team had given up all year, giving the Falcons an undefeated regular season for the first time in nearly 30 years . Since Meade stepped in last year, the boys never had an offseason. The team's conditioning and practice brought them up from a 7-2 winning season last year to a 9-1 overall season, a section title and a state playoff berth.
Woodlands lost, 35-18, to O'Neill in the Class C state playoffs.
