Westchester Hosts National Senior Fitness Day

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The 19th Annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day is coming to a location near you on Wednesday, May 30, and Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino is urging all senior citizens to take part.

There will be tap dancing, strength training, swimming, cooking and presentations about nutrition hosted by Westchester County’s Department of Senior Programs and Services and its Health and Wellness Coalition.

“I encourage all seniors to circle May 30 on their calendars so that they don’t miss this important program,” said Astorino said in a press release. “People of all ages need to be fit, and fitness is essential for seniors who want to remain involved in their communities.”

All Westchester County residents 60 and older can take part in the free programs. A listing of the 16 participating locations and their phone numbers can be found here. Contact the individual agencies to find out what programs each will offer. In some cases, seniors must be residents of the agency's community to take part.

The theme of this year’s National Senior Health and Fitness Day is “Get Moving … Start Improving.”
