GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Greenburgh residents can nominate local sportsmen and sportswomen to be considered candidates for this year’s Westchester Sports Hall of Fame. All candidates should be people of integrity who have gained prominence in either professional or amateur sports as a player, coach, manager, official, owner, writer or broadcaster, according to the county.
A committee will decide each candidate’s qualifications. The county’s Hall of Fame, established in 1968, honors living and deceased sportsmen and sportswomen who have gained prominence in their fields and who have made substantial contributions to sports in Westchester, the release said. There are more than 200 county sports stars in the Hall of Fame.
Nominations must be received by Friday, May 31. The nomination form is available online and must be mailed to Westchester Sports Hall of Fame, c/o Kevin Cook, 450 Saw Mill River Road, Ardsley, NY 10502.
An induction will take place this fall, when members will be presented with a trophy and have his or her name inscribed on a plaque in the Westchester Sports Hall of Fame gallery in the County Center in White Plains. The Sports Hall of Fame is sponsored by Westchester County Parks.
